Clyde Valley Hawks 36 - 0 Lancashire Wolverine Colts
A day of rain and sunshine greeted the travelling Wolverine Colts team as they made the trip North for this rearranged Week 5 fixture.
Clyde Valley received the opening kick and immediately went to work with their strong running game driving down the length of the field. A botched hand off ended this drive at the 5 yard line Colts LB Khalid Afzal making the recovery.
The Colts Offence never got started on the resulting drive, two sacks in a row resulting in the Hawks taking the lead 2 points to nil.
Clyde Valley’s offence was spurned on by their defences effort and drove down field again on the next drive with their running game punching it in from the 7 yard line.
The Colts offence continued to struggle in the Second quarter fumbling away their four drives in either the first or second play, as well as conceding a further safety.
Aided by such a strong Clyde Valley defence it was no surprise that Clyde Valley’s rushers scored twice more before the end of the half.
The Colts team went into the half, thankful that their Defence led by captain Greg Freeman and top tackler Carl Rugen Jr had kept them in the game despite being on the field for 95% of the fist half.
After the half a tactical change in offence allowed the Colts Offence to at last get a pass off, unfortunately this pass was immediately picked off by the Clyde Valley Defence.
The Colts defence undeterred by another set back kept playing and managed to shut the Hawks out in the 3rd quarter, the sole points coming from Clyde Valleys Defence returning a fumble for the score.
In the Fourth quarter the Wolverines offence started to show signs of life, David Ramsden’s first completion as a youth quarterback being followed by the Colts first, first down courtesy of a fake punt ran by Greg Freeman for a 24 yard gain. Despite this success the Colts never looked like troubling a Clyde Valley defence which racked up a total of seven turnovers from the 23 plays that they were required to defend.
Clyde Valley who had taken to the air in the fourth quarter finished out the scoring, a long pass completion taking them to the Colts two yard line. From this position Clyde Valley concluded the game with another rushing TD, this time converted by a point after kick.
