The first national youth competition saw 33 teams battle for the right to become the first youth National Champions. The Kent Rams, who featured a young Scott Rowe (later of London O's/Olympian fame), became the countries first youth National Champions. The game was played at QPRs Loftus Rd.
The team was run, in part, by Bill Newnham - brother of former GB Lions Youth head coach Simon Newnham. Bill Newnham also went on to become the first BYAFA chair.


16 teams progressed to the play-offs, in the semi-finals, Kent defeated the Luton jnr Flyers 6-0 and Chelmsford Cherokee defeated the Swansea Dragons 12-3. A report on the final will follow - I was even there!.
